Earthly knowledge can never
compare with divine knowledge. All things of spirit must have to be spiritually
discerned. Faith is required for much remains beyond man’s limited comprehension.
But wherever and whenever a student is ready, the Master comes to show the Way
that if followed will lead to Truth.
All of us are spirits, clothed in a flesh body which is only a vehicle for
learning required lessons. The Earth is only a classroom for the building of
character. The Way is through love and service to our fellow-spirits. So “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all
things will be added on to you.” Psychic ability is just one of
these things.
All things are individual in nature. No two spirits are exactly alike. Everyone
is at a different stage in the order of evolution. Therefore, each person will
react differently to any given situation. Hence, there is no hard and fast rule
to develop psychic abilities but to practice love and goodness to ensure proper
usage, first, and meditation to facilitate its speedy development.
Psychic abilities are tools that should be used only to help others. This is
just one way afforded us so that we may advance in our development through the
service of others. This is a divine law that everyone should be aware of.
As the flesh body has the properties of the five senses, the spirit, which is
the real you, possesses psychic abilities. Everyone has been since the creation
of this world; really, no one is starting from scratch, for development has
proceeded in lives past on the Earth plane and elsewhere. To many, it is only a
process of recollecting what we already know and have learned in other planes
of being. It is just that in our pursuit of spiritual advancement, there are
certain requirements best met while under the circumstances and in situations
like those that can be found in a material plane such as the Earth.
When we move our hands, we don’t put too much emphasis on which muscles we use
or which nerves conduct the impulses from the brain. If we do, then we
only delay our action. It is enough that we are able to move our hands when we
want to. Let us always bear in mind that love, the kind that is put to practice,
is what counts. Too much knowledge or detail is not needed. Let us be simple
children of God. And let us remember that every question can be answered. But
unless we are first grounded on the basics, though we may read the words, we
won’t be able to understand the answer.
Meditation
Necessary preparations precede the development of any spiritual
faculty. The first step is to think only positive thoughts, be open and
receptive to the divine. Meditation is a resting of the mind, keeping quiet and
listening to God; to many, it is prayer.
Place your body in a comfortable position. Relax and without stress or
strain, release all tensions effortlessly. Exert no effort but gradually allow
yourself to sink into it, so to speak. To some, the meditative state can
be achieved through the same process as sleeping but without losing
consciousness. To others, it is attained by passively observing the rhythm of
their breathing. Still, others prefer to use mantras. As a rule, find the
method that suits you best and that, use. Meditation is a great aid in the
development of psychic abilities because, generally, it provides the means of
attunement to higher vibrations and influences.
Keep practicing until it becomes second nature to you.
Developing our mediumship
Clairvoyance is the perception of images beyond the range of normal
vision, much like television receiver sets can decode television frequency
signals that are invisible to the human eye. As we develop
spiritually, our spirit vibrations heighten to a level where we can meet
up and reception may be achieved.
Automatic writing is the elementary stage of psychic development. Usually for
beginners, a request for this purpose is first transmitted to our own Spirit
Guide who will then project mental commands to your writing arm. So let go of
conscious control of your arm. Make it free from all obstructions. Feel where
it wants to go and just allow it to move freely. Invariably, the scribbling
should eventually produce readable scripts.
Astral traveling is a visitation into the astral worlds, providing insights
into reality. The procedure is much the same as in meditation and clairvoyance,
just keep focused on your objective of the moment. Trance mediumship is the
reception of thoughts or words or both. Trance, thought transfer and telepathy
mean the same things but in different degrees of proficiency.
The laying-on-of-hands or magnetic healing is performed through the charging of
recreative energy into an ill person to replace the energy that the person is
temporarily unable to regenerate, himself. Psychic surgery is a different
matter. All matter is composed of smaller particles of matter. To enter into a
body, by some principle of divine law, the cells of body tissues are separated
and made to come together again after an operation, much like separating liquid
or gas. Illnesses are outer manifestations of some spiritual defect. A psychic
surgeon then, through the faculty of clairvoyance can sense the disharmony in
the colors of the astral body and diagnose accordingly. Often, spirit guidance
through telepathy is also availed of.
These are but a small part of what every student of Truth studies. The scope of
Truth is much too vast to be covered completely in this space. Everyone must
learn to draw from his own experiences. For all experiences serve to teach.
There is no end to learning. And the more we learn, the more there is to learn.
Wherever there are new ideas, usually, the result is initial confusion. But
confusion is the beginning of learning. It is our hope then that we have
awakened your desire to pursue your own studies and develop your inner
faculties, as well.
