Psychic phenomena are
by no means new. Many incidents are recorded even in the Gospels. Still, then
as now, it is controversial, largely misunderstood, tremendously feared and
stubbornly denied. But there is nothing to fear if our hearts are right. And
there is nothing to prevent us from learning more about these things provided
we are open to New Teachings.
Long before Jesus started on his mission, much had already been prophesied
concerning him. Isaiah wrote of him and his work, his teachings of divine
truths, his message of hope, his path of deliverance and his promise of eternal
life. Closer to his time, John the Baptist spoke of his coming. All these prophecies
and others as well have come to pass.
Other Scriptures told about his death, his coming to Jerusalem riding on a
colt, the soldiers casting lots for his robe, the piercing of his side and
condition of his bones. These insights never could have come from the minds of
mere men, but were messages received from God — These were supernatural
perceivings.
But more. He knew all about his disciples even before he saw them in the flesh.
He knew Judas would betray him and Peter would deny him. He even saw his own
death on the cross and that he would rise again.
Jesus not only knew more than others. He could also do a lot more things that
others could not. He turned plain water into excellent wine. He multiplied a
few loaves and fish enough to feed thousands. The forces of nature, even storms
and such, obeyed him and acceded to his commands. He walked even on water.
He is the accomplished faith healer. Merely by laying his hands, the sick got
healed or else he applied his saliva on their eyes that they may see. But he
didn’t even need to touch them at all, because a mere word from him and the
blind could see, the deaf could hear and the lame, walk. He did absent healing
as well, as in the case of the slave of the Centurion and the daughter of the
gentile woman.
And when all seemed lost, he brought the dead back to life again, as he did
with Jairus’s daughter, Lazarus and the dead son who was about to be buried.
And last, he, himself, came back alive and well after his death on the cross.
And just as mysteriously as he came back from death, he again ascended to his
true home in Heaven.
At the time, he didn’t tell us how he manages to do all these things but then
he said, "All that I have
done, you too can do." He also said, "The Holy Spirit will come to guide you to
all the Truth." And today, now, the Holy Spirit is here to
provide the necessary guidance.
Let us be open that we may receive.
